This is because the Routes API is not enabled for the current Google Maps API key.

To see real routes instead of straight lines, you need to enable it in the Google Cloud project associated with this app.

After enabling, you may need to wait a few minutes and then try your request again. The app will fall back to drawing straight lines in the meantime.
